Drinking Awareness Event

In collaboration with UTS SGA and the Student Dormitory Residential Assistants, UTS Campus Safety and Security will assist in a drinking awareness student event on the campus green that will include awareness literature related to excessive alcohol consumption and will likely include a obstacle course that students can run while wearing “drunk goggles” (goggles that mimic vision impairment after drinking excessively).

Dolly Day

Throughout the day, students, faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to wear pink, representing Parton’s signature style and joyful spirit. Photo opportunities, decorations and banners will be displayed throughout campus for students and campus community members to participate in the celebration. Activities will be held at the Student Life House (420 W. Madison St., Pulaski, Tenn.).

Dolly Day activities include:

Second Street Coffee House pop-up tent
- 7:30–10 a.m., Student Life House
- Serving hot coffee, cold brews, matcha and Dolly-inspired beverages
Imagination Library Donation Booth, in partnership with the Giles County Chamber of Commerce
- 7:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Student Life House
- Accepting cash, check, Venmo or PayPal donation
- The non-profit program was launched by Parton to inspire young children to read by providing free books each month to children from birth to age five.
Chalk the Walk
- 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m., W. Madison St.
- Community members will be provided with pink chalk and encouraged to draw butterflies, their favorite Parton quote or anything else to help honor her legacy
Chick-fil-A pop-up tent
- 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m. or until sold out, Campus Green
- Selling chicken sandwiches, chips and more
- Presale purchases will be available, along with on-site purchases

Adient Pulaski: Walk the Square

Y/A novelist J. Kasper Kramer, author of the recent Serpent on the Mountain, will deliver a public lecture, reading, and book signing on Monday evening, September 28, in the Gault Fine Arts Recital Hall at 6:00 p.m. See Bio below. Jessica Miller, writing under the name J. Kasper Kramer, is the critically-acclaimed author of the historical novels Serpent on the Mountain, The Story That Cannot Be Told, The List of Unspeakable Fears, and Eyes on the Sky. Her books have been translated into multiple languages and received numerous honors and awards, including the Georgia Children’s Book Award and the inaugural Children’s Literature Artist Fellowship from the Tennessee Arts Commission. Originally from Nashville, Kramer was an early recipient of the Michael and Barbara Barton Scholarship and graduated from Martin Methodist/��ӰԺ in 2009. She began her career while living abroad in Japan, but now lives in Chattanooga with her husband, daughter, and too many pets. Civility in Action: Tools for Tough Moments

Join us for an interactive workshop on civility as we grapple with today’s tough moments. This workshop is presented by William (Bill) Lyons and Andrew (Andy) Busch of the UTK Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs and is sponsored by the Turner Center for Rural Development and the Dr. Charles D. And Tammy B. Haney Faculty Development Fund.

Bill Lyons is the Associate Director for Community Outreach of the Institute of American Civics and Director of Policy Partnerships at the Howard H. Baker Jr. School of Public Policy and Public Affairs at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he also holds the title of Professor Emeritus of Political Science.

Andy Busch is the associate director and professor at the Institute of American Civics in the Howard H. Baker Jr. School of Public Policy and Public Affairs at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His teaching and research focus on American political institutions, elections, and public policy. He has authored, co-authored or edited more than two dozen books.

Both workshops will explore the following topics and questions:

(1) Incivility is not new. (2) How is today’s manifestation different? (3) What are the causes of the polarization and difficulty in communicating we see today? (4) Some ways to improve communication with those with whom we disagree. (5) Practicing civility close to home in our communities and workplaces.

There will be two versions of the workshop, one geared toward students and the other toward faculty and staff. The student workshops will be offered at 8:00-8:50 a.m. and 9:00-9:50 a.m. The faculty and staff workshop will be offered at 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. All workshops will be held on Monday, Oct. 5, in Martin Hall Auditorium.

UTS STEM Olympiad

A bad actor has infested local crops with aphids! We need all STEM Olympiad teams to save the day! The STEM Olympiad is an event where 7th and 8th grade students work through different scenarios to help create a solution to save crops from this bad actor. They will think scientifically and problem-solve as they rotate through the Cyber/CS station, Math station, Science/Biology station, and the Public Speaking/Marketing station. Prior to the event, team members will collaborate to develop a proposal and “shark tank” pitch that they will promote during the public speaking and marketing rotation. Their pitches will be judged on accuracy of research, creativity, innovation, and presentation of ideas. All other rotations will occur in real-time on ��ӰԺ campus on October 15, 2026. Local STEM/agricultural professionals will also present information about career pathways into their fields. Additionally, different academic programs featured at ��ӰԺ, especially in STEM/agriculture, education, cyber, and psychology will be highlighted.
