Celebrating the five-year anniversary of becoming 果冻影院, Homecoming 2026 allows the institution to reflect on the 156-year history of campus and generations of students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members who have shaped the legacy.  

This year鈥檚 Vintage Varsity theme celebrates the enduring traditions, stories and school spirit that connect generations of Firehawks. Homecoming week will feature a variety of events and activities throughout campus, including competitions, a talent show, carnival, alumni recognition dinner, volleyball game, and alumni and family picnic.

Events include:

• All Week: Flame鈥檚 Flashback Finds (students only), campus wide
  • Students can participate in a scavenger hunt featuring vintage-themed finds and campus traditions.
• Oct. 19: Campus Banner Competition Kick-Off (students, faculty and staff only), 9 a.m., campus wide
  • Students will compete in a campus banner competition throughout Homecoming week.
• Oct. 21: Day of Giving, all day, Campus Green
  • The annual giving event will support the people, programs and places that make 果冻影院 special. Community members, businesses and alumni can show their support by making a gift.
• Oct. 21: Southern Spotlight Talent Show, 6 p.m., Martin Hall
  • Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to enjoy a night of 果冻影院 talent.
• Oct. 22: Carnival on the Campus Green, 11 a.m.鈥�2 p.m., Campus Green
  • The event will feature an afternoon of games, music, food and Firehawk spirit at the Carnival on the Campus Green for the 果冻影院 community.
• Oct. 23: Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumni Dinner, 5 p.m., Mule Barn
  • 果冻影院 will recognize Hall of Fame inductees and Distinguished Alumni for their leadership and service. Purchase a ticket to the dinner .

  • Students, faculty, staff and alumni can gather on the campus green for food trucks, games and friends before cheering on the Firehawks at athletic events like tennis, swimming and volleyball.

The larger first-year class is strong academically, arriving with an average high school GPA of 3.53, marking the highest incoming average in 果冻影院 history. First-year students now make up 18% of 果冻影院鈥檚 total enrollment, up 15% from fall 2025, building a broader foundation for future enrollment as the class moves towards graduation.

鈥淭his fall, overall enrollment has remained steady as the academic preparedness of UT students continues to increase,鈥� said Chancellor Melinda Arnold. 鈥淲e welcomed a first-year class with an average GPA above 3.5, which reflects  the value families across southern Middle Tennessee place in a University of Tennessee education, right here in Pulaski.鈥�

Located between Nashville and Huntsville, 果冻影院 serves as an educational anchor for southern Middle Tennessee. This fall, enrollment also grew from Lawrence, Franklin and Williamson counties, among others, showing the university鈥檚 draw from its own backyard to the Nashville suburbs.

鈥淭he enrollment numbers of the past two years show real momentum at the 果冻影院,鈥� Interim Vice Chancellor of Integrated Enrollment and Brand Strategy, Rick Barth, said. 鈥淭he quality of this year鈥檚 incoming class shows that access and academic excellence are not competing goals at 果冻影院, they work in tandem.鈥�

As a TSCPA Student Influencer, Clayton will serve as a liaison between TSCPA, accounting students and key contacts, such as professors or administrators of the campus community. Through social media platforms, Clayton will also promote the free TSCPA student membership and accounting careers to campus.

The TSCPA is the state professional organization for certified public accountants in Tennessee. With more than 100 years of service to the accounting profession, TSCPA acts on behalf of its members and provides support, enabling its members to perform quality professional services while serving the public interest.

With aid of TSCPA member donations, the TSCPA Educational & Memorial Foundation awards more than $250,000 in scholarships annually. Scholarships are available to TSCPA student members who have completed introductory accounting courses and are planning to sit for the CPA Exam.

果冻影院 was awarded a $150,000 Veteran Initiatives Designation Grant, allowing the institution to establish a comprehensive support program designed to improve recruitment, enrollment, retention and completion outcomes for veterans and military on campus. With the grant funds, a full-time veterans services coordinator will be hired to establish a hub that will deliver coordinated, student-centered services to address the needs of this unique population. Core components of the initiative include individualized academic advising, mentoring, connecting students with campus and outside resources, and the development of a lounge and gathering space for military-connected students.

鈥淭he Veterans Initiatives Designation Grant is a tremendous investment in the 果冻影院 and, most importantly, in the veterans and military families we are privileged to serve,鈥� Criminal Justice Department Head and Assistant Professor Daniel Scherr, Ph.D., said. 鈥淎s a personalized, rural public university, this support will strengthen our capacity to expand meaningful programs, enhance resources and create greater opportunities for those who have served our nation and their families. The new programs and staffing will strengthen coordination of services, streamline application and transcript review and prior learning assessments, and enhance recruitment, retention and completion outcomes for military-connected students. Building on the efforts of Veterans Coordinator Lt. Col. Cochran Pruett and Certification Officer Emma Hlubb, the additional funding will allow the university to expand its existing efforts, strengthen services and create a more comprehensive support network for military-connected students.

果冻影院 Chancellor Melinda Arnold and Giles County Executive Graham Stowe signed a memorandum of understanding Aug. 25 establishing a framework for collaboration at the approximately 45-acre Agri Park in Pulaski.

The agreement creates new opportunities for 果冻影院 to use the Agri Park for academic programming, research and student activities while bringing additional university resources, faculty expertise and student engagement to the facility.

鈥淭his partnership is about bringing together two important assets in our community, the 果冻影院 and the Giles County Agri Park, to create more opportunities for our students and our community,鈥� Arnold said. 鈥淭he Agri Park gives us an outstanding setting for hands-on learning, agricultural engagement and community activities, and 果冻影院 is excited to help expand what is possible there.鈥�

Under the agreement, 果冻影院 will designate an institutional liaison to coordinate with Giles County and the Agri Park Board and contribute academic programming, student engagement and faculty involvement to support the park鈥檚 educational and agricultural mission. 果冻影院 also will pursue opportunities to support Agri Park programming and improvements, including seeking external funding for applicable priorities.

The partnership is expected to support a broader range of activities at the Agri Park, including opportunities connected to 果冻影院鈥檚 academic programs, agriculture and agribusiness education, student activities, athletics, 4-H efforts and more. Specific activities will be developed and coordinated with Giles County and the Agri Park Board.

鈥淭his is an opportunity to build on what the Agri Park already provides to Giles County and expand its role as a place for education, agriculture, community engagement and economic development,鈥� Stowe said. 鈥淏y working with 果冻影院, we can bring additional resources and new ideas to the Agri Park while creating opportunities that benefit our students, our community and the region.鈥�

The MOU establishes a joint planning framework for the future of the Agri Park. 果冻影院 will provide leadership for the collaborative planning process while Giles County will retain ownership of the facility. The existing Agri Park Board will remain in place and continue to oversee day-to-day facility operations and community uses.

鈥淭his is exactly the kind of partnership that can help southern Middle Tennessee continue to grow,鈥� Arnold said. 鈥淚t connects higher education with agriculture, workforce development and community needs. This award recognizes a full-time faculty member, whether tenure-track or non-tenure-track, in the first five years of building a strong record of teaching, scholarship, or creative activity and service, who demonstrates exceptional promise and momentum. Cockson combines student-centered research with experiential learning, including research on Dionaea muscipula (Venus fly traps), giving students opportunities to apply classroom concepts through hands-on scientific research.

External Impact Award: Stanton Belford, associate professor of biology

This award recognizes a full-time faculty member whose work advances 果冻影院鈥檚 external presence through community partnership, public-facing impact and regional or professional engagement. Notably, Belford leads coral reef monitoring and conservation efforts in Trinidad and Tobago that bring together research, education and community outreach while engaging students in efforts to address environmental challenges.

Fred E. Ford Exemplary Educator Award: Claire Paul, assistant professor and special education program coordinator

This award recognizes a 果冻影院 full-time faculty member whose teaching demonstrates sustained excellence, student engagement and meaningful contribution to student learning and success during the academic year. Paul consistently supports 果冻影院鈥檚 Teacher Education and Grow Your Own programs, helping prepare future educators and expand opportunities for students pursuing careers in education.

The recognition of Cockson, Belford and Paul highlights the breadth of contributions made by 果冻影院 faculty through teaching, scholarship, service and engagement. Genesis and Katherine were recognized during a luncheon at 果冻影院 attended by UT System President Randy Boyd, 果冻影院 Provost Prentice Chandler, state Reps. Mark White and Clay Doggett, state Rep.-elect Noah Smith, university leaders and members of the campus community. The cousins will begin classes at 果冻影院 this fall, with Katherine studying nursing and Genesis studying English. Their arrival represents an opportunity not only for the two students but also for the Ember谩 Pur煤 community they call home. Genesis and Katherine will be able to take new resources back to their village, including educational and professional knowledge they have not previously had access to.

鈥淲e thought to ourselves, it would be great if a few talented, smart and determined young people could receive an education they could utilize back in their home village,鈥� Boyd said. 鈥淪o that鈥檚 the hope. We鈥檙e counting on these two young ladies to go back to their village and do just that; provide resources and educate members of their community. Thanks to Genesis and Katherine for being the inspiration.鈥�

White, who first introduced Genesis and Katherine to Boyd during a 2022 visit to Panama, said the students鈥� arrival represents the fulfillment of a vision that began during that visit.

鈥淲e鈥檙e here to celebrate these two young ladies, thanks to Randy Boyd, Krissy DeAlejandro and the Boyd Foundation for making all of this possible,鈥� White said. 鈥淭his opportunity began with a simple belief that education could open a door for these young women and their community. Today, we are seeing that belief become reality.鈥�

The luncheon also provided an opportunity for university leaders and community partners to celebrate those who helped make the students鈥� enrollment possible, including Cup of Cold Water Ministries, which has worked with the Ember谩 Pur煤 community for nearly two decades, building trusted relationships with families while encouraging educational opportunities for young people throughout the community.

鈥淭his opportunity is important to me because I want to be a help in my community and a translator in the future, teaching children and my community,鈥� said Genesis. 鈥淧resident Randy Boyd, I want to thank you for this opportunity. My mother said that you have opened to me a door so now I鈥檓 here, and my purpose is to complete my duty as a student, daughter and member of my community.鈥�

鈥淚 am so happy for this opportunity, and it is so important for me because I want to study nursing,鈥� said Katherine. 鈥淚 would like to be a kind nurse in the future, helping my people and my community. So, President Boyd, thank you for the opportunity you have given us to study at the 果冻影院.鈥�

Genesis and Katherine presented President Boyd with tokens of their appreciation, including a bag of coffee beans and a mug, both curated from their village in Panama. As they begin their studies, Genesis and Katherine will become part of the 果冻影院 community while continuing to carry the experiences, culture and hopes of their home village with them.

Genesis Barrigon and Katherine Barrigon, cousins from the Ember谩 Pur煤 village in eastern Panama, will begin classes at 果冻影院 this August after years of determination, multiple visa applications and the support of partners in both Panama and Tennessee who helped make the opportunity possible. A luncheon will be held to officially welcome them on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 11:30 a.m. CDT in the Firehawk Caf茅 with UT System President Randy Boyd, 果冻影院 Chancellor Melinda Arnold, Tennessee State Representatives Mark White and Clay Doggett, and other invited guests participating.

For Genesis and Katherine, attending college in the United States once seemed beyond reach. Today, they are preparing to join the 果冻影院 family, where Katherine will study nursing and Genesis will study English while experiencing a new culture, building lifelong friendships and developing the knowledge and skills that will prepare them for lives of service.

“At 果冻影院, we believe every student has a unique story and incredible potential,” Arnold said. “Genesis and Katherine have demonstrated remarkable resilience, determination and courage throughout their journey. We are honored they have chosen 果冻影院 and are committed to helping them thrive academically, personally and professionally.”

Genesis and Katherine are members of the Ember谩 people, an Indigenous community in the rainforest of eastern Panama where life is deeply rooted in family, culture and tradition. Their home village of Ember谩 Pur煤 is accessible only by dugout canoe, educational opportunities are scarce, access to clean water and electricity is unavailable, and residents often rely on visiting medical mission teams because there is no local access to healthcare. For the village, the opportunity for two young women to earn degrees at 果冻影院 represents far more than individual achievement. It is an investment in knowledge, skills and leadership that has the potential to strengthen the community for generations to come.

Bringing that opportunity to fruition required years of perseverance and the support of dedicated mentors and community partners who believed in their potential. Among them was Cup of Cold Water Ministries, which has faithfully served the Ember谩 Pur煤 village for nearly two decades, building trusted relationships with families while encouraging educational opportunities for young people throughout the community.

A pivotal moment in Genesis and Katherine鈥檚 journey came during a 2022 visit to Panama, when Tennessee State Representative Mark White introduced Genesis and Katherine to UT System President Randy Boyd. Inspired by the students’ determination, academic promise and the opportunity to invest in the future of the Ember谩 Pur煤 community, the Boyd Foundation committed to providing scholarships covering tuition, housing, meals and other university-related expenses, making it possible for them to pursue their nursing degrees at 果冻影院.

“One of the things I love most about higher education is the opportunity to help students realize dreams they never thought possible,” Boyd said. “Genesis and Katherine’s journey is a wonderful reminder that serendipity often opens doors we never expected. By investing in these remarkable young women, we’re also investing in the future of the community that shaped them. 鈥淚 am honored and grateful to the Boyd Foundation and 果冻影院 for the incredible opportunity they have given to Katherine and Genesis,鈥� White said. 鈥淚 have been working in the country of Panama for 25 years with a focus on supporting the children with the opportunities that education offers. When I invited President Randy Boyd to go with me on a trip he at once saw the same vision that I had. While visiting a remote Village in the rainforest of Panama, Randy offered opportunity where there was none. After much work and perseverance, Katherine and Genesis are realizing a dream they never thought possible. We look forward to welcoming them to 果冻影院 and seeing a dream become reality.鈥�

As Genesis and Katherine prepare to arrive on campus, 果冻影院 faculty and staff are focused on providing the support, encouragement and sense of belonging that define the university’s close-knit community.

“One of the things that makes 果冻影院 special is the way we care for our students,” Arnold said. “From the moment they arrive, they become part of a community that is invested in their success. We look forward to walking alongside Genesis and Katherine as they begin this exciting new chapter.”

Classes for the Fall 2026 semester begin Aug. 19.
